1. Atlanta: Bell Street Burritos
With the motto “Everyone’s got a burrito. What’s Yours?” Bell Street Burritos is sure to please every palate and offers unique fillings like broccoli, potatoes, and shrimp. Patrons praise the chipotle salsa and steamed tortillas.
2. Austin, Texas: Changos Taqueria
If you crave a massive burrito for under $8, Changos delivers. Insiders say the Maximo burrito — a behemoth of beans, rice, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, zesty salsa, and your choice of beef, pork, or chicken, or guacamole — will reduce your hunger to nada in just a few bites.
3. Chicago: La Pasadita
La Pasadita is the Windy City’s answer to the taquerias of the southwest with three locations side-by-side on Ashland Avenue. Yelpers recommend the carne asada with salsa verde.
4. Miami: Tijuana Flats
With locations scattered along the East Coast and a killer hot-sauce bar boasting more than 20 different sauces — ranging from extra picante Red Ghost to the meek and mild Cupid’s Sultry Serum — Tijuana Flats doesn’t fall flat in the spice department. Regulars also love the Veggie & Bean Burrito for its fresh pico de gallo.
5. Isla Vista, Calif.: Freebirds World Burrito
The original Freebirds, celebrated for its generous portions and savory guacamole, first opened in Isla Vista, Calif., in 1987. Though it’s now part of a chain, the original restaurant maintains its own identity. Burrito lovers flock to this seaside hole-in-the-wall, open 24/7, for Monster Burritos and nachos.
